School filters are a lot of reasons why the internet can not be properly used in school. My school being guilty of it also. We hired a new superintendent this year and we have been getting a lot of new technology. It has also been approved that we get to use websites like YouTube at school to integrate into teaching. Just this week, I can finally access YouTube. Yay!!
That is great. Is YouTube available to the students? If I log into my account on the school's network, I can use YouTube. Students are still denied access. This frustrates me because YouTube can provide so much educational information. I have a smart board in my room but it is not hooked up yet. Even though I can use YouTube I have to be very creative on how to implement videos from it in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteNo students can not access you tube yet but we are working on it. Some teacher's still think that students are going to use the Internet for things they aren't suppose to. But with supervision, it would all be fine.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you're able to access Youtube! Our district has it blocked, which is unfortunate. :( I understand the fear behind the "what ifs" of having Youtube available. They are worried of what students will stumble upon. There are so many useful resources that we're missing out on as well. Many decisions in schools seem to be made from the fears of "what if". Anything that we do or have in school can be abused or used improperly. We just have to do the work to monitor the situation. :) Anyways... Lucky you! :)
